Welcome to the DPPA Settlement Website. This Proposed Settlement resolves a class action lawsuit over whether certain companies violated a federal law known as the Driver's Privacy Protection Act, 18 U.S.C. §§ 2721-2725 ("DPPA"), when they obtained, used, or disclosed personal information, such as a name, address, or driver's license number, from records kept by a Department of Motor Vehicles. Under the terms of the Proposed Settlement, the companies will design, implement, and maintain specific procedures to enhance protections for Personal Information and Highly Restricted Personal Information from motor vehicle records.
